Journeys to Vietnam

Warriors’ Journey Home – Healing the Heart; Restoring the Soul.

September 30 – October 14, 2018

This will be WJH third journey to Vietnam for healing and reconciliation. Most veteran’s were in their early teen years during their war experience in country. Remembering their past involvement 50 plus years later, they have the opportunity to re-discover Vietnam. The countries magnificent beauty and courteous people welcoming them to find a peace.

Our group consists of veterans, and their family, the itinerary is created by the veteran’s needs to return to specific Areas of Operation (AO’s), fire bases, and battle fields. We allow remembrance, the telling of stories, and honoring those who lived and those who died. We engage with former ARVN, Montagnards, Viet Cong, and North Vietnamese soldiers sharing the stories of the war, sharing a meal and praying for one another and our respective countries.

Those who have made the journey in the past report an inner peace that brings comfort. “It feels like I can finally close that chapter of my life,” said many of the veterans. WJH understands that the past needs to be our teacher; not our master.

For many Strong Hearts, they begin to understand what their family member and friends experienced in war and now. By walking with them on this journey of healing and wellness, they all gain a greater sense of peace and understanding.

Our First Trip to Vietnam (2010)

In 2010 members of Warriors’ Journey Home visited the Kim Dong Primary School in Vietnam. Supplies were collected by students at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent OH. When the story and effect of that delivery reached the students, they became even more inspired. Through their Project Vietnam money was raised to construct a library at the school.

Kent Ohio’s Theodore Roosevelt’s “Project Vietnam” helped to change the world for the students and teachers at Kim Dong Primary School in Vietnam. The school is located in a rural area of the province, funding for a library was not something that was feasible. Those that participated in the project were truly ambassadors for their school and the City of Kent. Their hard work demonstrated one way that the power of community can be put to use. In the fall of 2014, Warriors’ Journey Home sponsored their second trip of Healing and Reconciliation to Vietnam. Thirteen participants from WJH traveled for two weeks through areas where they once served.

Return to Vietnam (2014)

In the fall of 2014, Warriors’ Journey Home sponsored their second trip of Healing and Reconciliation to Vietnam. Thirteen participants from WJH traveled for two weeks through areas where they once served.

Their journey began in Tallmadge, for most, and then took them to Da Nang, through Hue and on to Saigon and the Delta. From the north to the south through the country were they once served. Along the way, they visited their former AO’s. Sacred ceremony was held at each stop along the journey to remember those traveling with the group and those who did not return.

The travelers meet with former foes and the people who live their today. They exchanged stories and and came to better understand the people and the country.

After their travels, they returned to Tallmadge to a much deserved welcome from the community that came out to say – Welcome Home.
